Getting to Rajasthan

Rajasthan is a destination which can be reached without much difficulty; Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur all have airports, and there are regular train and bus services connecting to all parts of India.

Rajasthan is well connected to the rest of India by a wide network of railway lines. You can get train service to Rajasthan from just about any state in India. In addition, travel by train is one of the cheapest means to reach Rajasthan unless you use has the much-famed Palace on Wheels, which is an absolutely royal treat for anyone who wants to travel by train.

Rajasthan is connected by well-maintained National Highways to all neighboring states and the rest of India.

Rajasthan roadways
buses run regular and deluxe coaches to these states. The roads are four lane highways in most places with rest stations, restaurants, gas and service stations. Overnight or day time buses are well available from Delhi. Travel and tour operators run a number of conducted tours to the many tourist destinations in Rajasthan.

Another option is to hire a car and a driver to take you to and around Rajasthan. Do not attempt to drive yourself, although it is possible it is extremely risky, and the cost of hiring the car with a driver is almost the same as hiring the car without one, and if the driver speaks sufficiently English you have a guide for the trip as an added on bonus.

The nearest international airport to Rajasthan is Indira Gandhi International Airport in
DelhiFrom here onward domestic flights are available to JaipurJodhpurUdaipur and Jaisalmer. All of these airports have direct flights to many major Indian cities, though if coming from a smaller city, one has to go via Delhi. Taxis, airport to city buses, auto rickshaws and tourist taxis are available outside these airports for the ride into the city. Some hotels will also arrange pick-ups for their reserved guests.
